The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, an online compendium of invented words, has created a fascinating video that eloquently explains “vemödalen” or the “the frustration of photographing something amazing when thousands of identical photos already exist”.
The images used in the video were taken by different photographers around the world, remarking on the inevitability of capturing the same or similar image as someone else, due to the ubiquity of cameras.
Intriguingly, the video also makes an argument for finding beauty in the knowledge that a photograph similar to yours exists.
